Dear Westside Vocal Music Families,

As the President of the Vocal Music Parent Association (VMPA), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year. If you’re reading this, your student is officially a member of Westside High School’s superior vocal music program - students renowned for their talent, discipline, and heart. If you are new to our program, welcome to the family! If you are returning, welcome back. We are going to have a fantastic year!

VMPA is a parent-led organization dedicated to supporting whatever our directors, Mr. Greg Woodin and Mr. Andrew Jacobson, dream up for our students to expand their musical knowledge and experience. If you have a student in the choir program, you are already a member. No applications or dues are required to join; your involvement starts the moment your student hits their first note this school year. Speaking of the school year, please review the vocal music calendar.

Our role within VMPA is to provide the support necessary for our directors to focus on musical excellence and for our students to have world-class opportunities. From the first rehearsal to the final curtain call, we are there to lend a hand with event coordination, host team-building activities, and lead our various fundraising drives. We are not only the cheering section for the entire vocal music program, but we also ensure Westside choirs and show choirs have the resources to shine.

Financial support from our families and community is what makes our music possible. All contributions are tax-deductible and provide essential funding for everything from sheet music to travel. There are several ways to get involved:

·       Attend Our Events: Join us for Cabaret, an event that showcases student talent on November 1, 2026, Premier Night on January 12, 2027, when our show choirs showcase their competition sets, and Competition of Excellence, our show choir invitational on January 30, 2027.

·       Hall of F.A.M.E.: Our "Fund for Attaining Musical Excellence" accepts donations from friends and family at any time.

·       Corporate Choir: An initiative offering local businesses the chance to sponsor our talented students.

Beyond the logistics and fundraising, one of the most rewarding aspects of VMPA is the chance to build a community of our own. When we establish strong connections with one another, we create a powerful network of support that echoes the harmony our students find on stage. By sharing our time, talent, encouragement, and treasure, we ensure that every student feels the strength of VMPA behind them. My goal is to build a strong, connected parent community to provide the best possible experience for our students' musical aspirations. Let’s make this a fantastic year for all our students!

Sincerely,

Kim Schenkelberg
